There are times when you may need to see another oncologist in the office if your primary oncologist is unavailable. If you require hospitalization, you will be treated by one of our oncologists who is the hospitalist for the week. Our oncologists rotate weekly in the hospital so there is a doctor more accessible to manage your inpatient care. The oncology hospitalist is available to spend more time talking with you and your family, coordinating tests and adjusting treatment. He or she will be in close contact with your primary oncologist.

Nurse Practitioners

The nurse practitioner is an advanced practice nurse with a master's degree in nursing who is skilled in advanced physical assessment, diagnosis and treatment. They are also experts in symptom management. The nurse practitioner monitors your condition and collaborates with your oncologist on treatment decisions. They can assist with answering your questions regarding your disease, treatment, lab results and X-rays, and prescribe medications when indicated. You may see the nurse practitioner for your routine, pre-chemotherapy visit and stable follow-up visits.
