Bariatric Surgery
Getting Started
Guiding You Every Step of the Way
CMG’s Center for Weight Management is here to help you make a decision that’s right for you, to help you understand how your day-to-day life will be different, and to support you as you take each step. Before your bariatric surgery, you will:
1. Attend a free orientation about bariatric surgery at Camino Medical Group. The orientation is highly informative, and we strongly suggest you prepare to get the most out of it by studying the information on our Web site, looking up more information on the Web sites listed below, and making a list of questions you would like us to answer at the orientation.
Call 650-404-8400 to schedule your orientation.
2. Then comes a personal consultation with our surgeon, Dr. Prithvi Legha, to evaluate whether this operation is appropriate for you and to plan any further consultations, evaluations and preparations needed to ensure your readiness for this life-changing surgery.
3. After you have attended the orientation, met with Dr. Legha and are interested in pursuing the possibility of surgery, we will schedule an appointment for your individual evaluation and instruction with our Registered Dietitian specialized in the nutritional and lifestyle aspects of bariatric surgery.
4. Dr. Legha will ask our program coordinator, Susan Nachshen, to work with you on insurance coverage and approval, and coordinate all necessary preparations for successful surgery.

| Some of the above Web sites have sections that will calculate your BMI for you by simply entering your own height and weight. Body Mass Index, or BMI, is a widely used indicator of how much someone is over- or underweight. It is often used as a guide to which treatments may be appropriate for someone who is overweight and which treatments an insurance company may be willing to pay for. In terms of BMI, "normal weight" is usually defined as a BMI between 18.6 to 24.9; "overweight" as a BMI of 25-29.9, "obesity" a BMI of 30 or more, and "morbid obesity" as a BMI 40 or more. |
